Dans cet article, nous voudrions aborder le sujet de la distribution hiérarchique des langues parlées au Cameroun. Notre but est celui d’évaluer comment la diglossie s’applique au cas du Cameroun, en insistant sur les spécificités sociolinguistiques du contexte qui pourraient demander une intégration sémantique du concept de diglossie en soi. L’approche méthodologique adoptée est l’observation macro-sociolinguistique et nous permettra au bout du compte d’avoir une meilleure compréhension de la hiérarchie statutaire et fonctionnelle existant entre les langues parlées dans la République du Cameroun et de proposer un modèle d’organisation statutaire des langues plus en phase avec la réalité sociolinguistique du Cameroun.

Abstract: In this paper, we wish to tackle the topic of the hierarchical distribution of the languages spoken in Cameroon. The purpose is to assess how diglossia can be applied to Cameroon, insisting on the sociolinguistic peculiarities of this context that might require a semantic integration of the notion of diglossia itself. The methodology adopted consists of an macro-sociolinguistic observation that will allow us to have a better grip on the functional and statutory hierarchy existing between the languages spoken in Cameroon and to propose a statutory organisation model more in tune with the sociolinguistic reality of Cameroon.
