La Couronne aux Enchères est une pièce théâtre produite pendant la colonisation. Les Africains, durant la période précoloniale, vivaient au rythme de la coutume qui était un gage de stabilité et de paix. Ce contact avec les occidentaux, engendrant une superposition de deux civilisations, peut entraîner des bouleversements dans la mentalité des Africains. Ainsi, Amon d’ABY tente-t-il d’attirer l’attention de son peuple sur la question du respect et de l’application des valeurs traditionnelles. La succession du défunt roi des Massafoué a été l’occasion, pour l’auteur, de montrer quelques pans de cette coutume qu’il entend valoriser. En effet, l’établissement d’un nouveau roi dépend du mode de sa désignation et de sa consécration publique qui se réalisera en tenant compte de l’environnement ésotérique de la société traditionnelle.
Abstract
La Couronne aux Enchères is a play produced during colonization. Africans, during the precolonial period, lived to the rhythm of custom which was a guarantee of stability and peace. This contact with Westerners, generating a superposition of two civilizations, can lead to upheavals in the mentality of Africans. Thus, Amon d'ABY tries to draw the attention of his people to the issue of respect and the application of traditional values. The succession of the late king of Massafoué was an opportunity for the author to show some aspects of this custom that he intends to promote. Indeed, the establishment of a new king depends on the mode of his appointment and his public consecration which will be carried out taking into account the esoteric environment of traditional society.
